Trevor Dooley put his gun in his waistband and showed it off to try to intimidate David James, who was white. Dooley shot James as he was trying to stand up for a kid with a skateboard.

George Zimmerman is a white guy (who suddenly became latino if you listen to his father. BTW, stormfront so believes it) carrying a concealed weapon, who ended up using it by assassinating Trayvon Martin, a black teen carrying nothing more threatening that a bag of Skittles and a can of Arizona Iced Tea.

The similarities in this case (seen from the perspective of a Florida resident) is that both Dooley and Zimmerman acted through the power of their guns. And because they used guns to try to solve problems, they each stand accusing of murdering people. With Dooley shooting a guy who was playing basketball with his daughter, and Zimmerman shooting a kid walking from the store during the halftime of the NBA All-Star game.

These incidents are horrific on their own, but it's about guys with guns killing unarmed people, not race. Because judging these incidents on race alone, Dooley and Zimmerman would be on opposites sides, instead of being under similar investigations.

      •  The part about race (0+ / 0-)

Is who gets held for prosecution and who gets released until a public campaign for justice forces the issue.

If you are doubting race plays a significant role in the US justice system suggest you research some data on conviction rate by ethnic demographics.

      •  your inflamatory mistruths (0+ / 0-)

about the zimmerman case really take away from your argument against guns.  it was proven to the jury that Martin attacked Zimmerman, not the other way around.

if your contention is that without a legal carry GZ would have been too afraid to leave his home at night, you inadvertently show that WITHOUT the 2nd amendment, many of our neighborhood streets would belong to the criminals, not to mention they would have the power to rob us at will.

obviously our police are pretty helpless in guaranteeing our simplest of freedoms without some help

...The jury did not have it proven that Trayvon attacked Zimmerman. Such proof was not required. All the jury had to decide is that it was possible that Zimmerman was attacked and therefore he shouldn't be convicted. This is a gigantic difference from your claim.

Don't tell me what you believe, show me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.
