  •  Oh FFS (0+ / 0-)

Do this LAST.  Seriously.  I recc almost everything you post, but this is just stupid.  Fight first for equal rights under the law when it comes to employment and public accomodation and other discrimination.  Put the restroom issue on the backburner and this issue behind that one.

    Have priorities!

Even if a potential law isn't written that way, people will assume that regular cis men convicted of crimes will suddenly become trans to avoid going to a men's prison.

    •  Our lives don't come segmented... (4+ / 0-) the way you seem to think.

You tell me I should "have priorities".  You should "Have empathy."

That's just the word I was looking for...Segmented.
I can't say I understand everything you have to go through, but I can feel, I can have empathy, and I do understand the push of authoritarians to have all of our lives segmented into neat little predefined pieces for the sake of defining what is outside their ken rather than having to use any sense of empathy.  There seems to be a meme out there, and it's not new, that wer all have to live as segmented little personas, whether cis or trans. anybody attempting to live an integrated life is automatically a bit of a kook.

        •  Another word often used is "compartmentalized." (2+ / 0-)

It is used to describe the ability some people have to "shut off" their concern or even awareness of some critical aspect of life if it interferes with their ability to function in the manner they want and choose to.

It is not unique to either conservatives or progressives, although the conservatives seem to have the ability to compartmentalize in spades.  It's what allows them to show up at church on Sunday and fully believe they are "good" Christians, while they pursue social and economic policies that would make Christ weep. The ability to compartmentalize is also what allows so many progressives to buy an iPhone without giving up a moment's sleep over the thought of the cost of human suffering that went into that device's manufacturing.

People who can "keep their priorities straight" are also said to be good at compartmentalizing.

      •  I'm not talking about your life (0+ / 0-)

I'm talking about public opinion and law.  I want us to be able to go out, I want an end to job discrimination.  I'm tired of living a lie.  I'm so fucking tired.  So yes, I'm motivated to be strategic and not focus on the very things that will set back the rest of the agenda for decades.
