  •  Well done, although the religious beliefs (7+ / 0-)

    of the founders varied.  Some were Christians, some were atheists, many were Deists.

    Deists believed in a Creator of the Universe -- but they did not believe in God the way Christians do.  They did not believe he heard prayers, or interceded in human affairs.  They did not believe in the divinity of Jesus Christ.  Their "Creator" was basically an explanation for the existence of the world, but nothing beyond that.

      And of course, Unitarians were reviled for having the temerity to look at spirituality/religion what have you as being larger than any of the human precepts of divinity.  Of course, once you strip away what makes us different, you must face the fact that we're all the same.  Makes it much harder to subjugate folks.
