    I just now linked to the site carrying the student's entire post. Among the comments fairly early on is one by Kristin that starts out saying, "...I partly agree with what you are saying," but ends with this:

    They may not have the opportunities in their lives to change their destiny. None of us know what their true lives are like. We can’t judge them whether we are a cashier at a grocery store watching their purchases or in line behind them scanning what they buy. No one really knows except for God and the rest of us can’t determine their true hardships or lives unless we walk a mile in their shoes.
    I was glad to read that. She raised some points similar to yours, based on her knowledge of friends whose families were in financial trouble--and based on her own thoughtful, considerate character.

    There's hope yet. ;)
