  •  I think the real question is how Cheney got it? (3+ / 0-)

Let's be honest, what 70+ year old is going to be approved for a heart transplant over a list of likely younger and healthier (relatively speaking) candidates?

This is the health industry we are dealing with.  An industry that throws all rules out the window any time someone rich and famous and powerful comes along.  It makes no difference that there are people on the transplant list with likely MUCH higher need and worth for the transplant.  Cheney is rich and powerful and politicall connected so someone may very well end up dying, or struggling health-wise, so the 75 year old Cheney could live a couple more years.

should have been on the transplant list to begin with. It's likely that political connections got him on the list, and money (probably a nice fat donation to the hospital), moved him to the top of the list. It happens all the time - Steve Jobs got a liver transplant that extended his life about 3 or 4 years (and some poor schmuck who should have gotten that liver, but wasn't as rich, probably died).
