  •  andgarden - single payer was never an issue (4+ / 0-)

Actual health care paid for through taxes has never been a constitutional issue. Private health insurance mandated by a clumsy set of sticks and carrots became questionable. However, if he ACA is stuck down it may be a decade before any President is willing to pick up the issue again.

The substance of the ACA and the proffered arguments against it are basically irrelevant.

Ok, so I read the polls.

... arguing to uphold universal compulsory purchase of corporate product, rather than striking it down and moving immediately to the public option or single payer, about which no constitutional challenges can be raised.

Never in my wildest dystopian fiction would I have predicted that.

"Minus two votes for the Democrat" equals "plus one vote for the Republican." Arithmetic doesn't care about your feelings.

who support the ACA and the mandate know that there is no public option or single payer on the horizon or likely in a decade.

In other words they're all full of despair because they let the badguys get inside their heads.   And if they were halfway as competent at managing the Human Operating System that runs on their own brains, as they are at managing whatever OS runs on their computers, they would wake up and stop acting like deterministic Newtonian billiard balls and start using their free will.

      •  And how, pray tell, does such immediate movement (0+ / 0-)

happen? Not with a Republican House and less than 60 votes in the Senate. If the ACA is struck down, nothing is going to happen for years with healthcare on a federal level.
