  •  I actually think it's fine to say that (reserve (11+ / 0-)

judgement) so long as they don't also jump on the "Trayvon shouldn't have worn a hoodie," or "Trayvon was suspended for X, Y, or Z."  It's clear from the 911 calls that Trayvon was not doing anything illegal and what he was wearing or whether he was suspended are not justification for being killed for walking down a street with a snack.
Shooting an unarmed teenager (and that's a well known fact at this point) is pretty hard to explain away, but I was willing to be a little open to at least listening to Zimmerman's version of events. But this video makes his claims of being beaten and injured seem pretty absurd.
So how close was Trayvon to Zimmerman when Zimmerman shot him? My bet is, not all that close and therefore not all that much of a threat.

    •  I always agree with reserving judgment (9+ / 0-)

But when I asked one of them today how it could be self defense if he got out of his vehicle, she responded that he was never in a vehicle. I mean, how do you argue with that? That is deep denial.

The biggest thing I took from that video when matched with his version of events is pretty much what you did: where's the blood spatter? He says he shot that young man at close range. There should have been blood all over him. This video is huge.

      •  so they only hear the "facts" they want to hear (7+ / 0-)

and the rest is just blocked out. No wonder you're frustrated.
My husband was telling me about the reports of Zimmerman being beaten, so I showed him this video. We looked at it closely and it's possible there was a damp spot on the back of his jacket, and it's possible there was some little tiny thing on the back of his head -- but even if those possibilities are actually accurate descriptions, they are evidence of something far less than being punched in the nosse and having your head (shaven head which means damage would be visible) beaten against a sidewalk.
And no blood on any of his clothing that would have been the result of a close-range shot to Trayvon's chest.
After viewing the video, my husband withdrew his willingness to believe that Zimmerman was being beaten up when he shot Trayvon.
You're right. The video is huge.

      •  That's a very good point (3+ / 0-)

If they were fighting, and he shot at close range, he would have lots of blood on him. If he got hit, got his head slammed on the concrete, rolled in the grass, he'd be dirty, torn, at least a little bloodied.

        Nothing. There's nothing.

Then there are the many 911 calls, in some of which you can hear screaming, which STOPS as soon as you hear the shot.

If you're fighting and screaming because somebody is attacking you and you're NOT the one shot, you don't stop screaming immediately when the shot is heard.

I don't know that it would physically be possible - you're going to be screaming instinctively, you don't just stop that on a dime.

        Unless you're dead.

It's impossible to believe that if there was ANY kind of a struggle, his shirt wouldn't even have come untucked.  And I've certainly never heard of the police helping a suspect look as neat as possible before taking him in handcuffs to the station.
