You know what people REALLY believe? What they see. Romney's problem is that the GOP hysteria about Obama being some sort of mad radical didn't quite pan out for them. I personally think they need a new tack. That's one is done and dead. Nobody but the GOP base believes Obama is a secret muslim radical anymore. But I give him a "A" for effort.

Further, nobody here is seriously touting "inevitability of defeat". Come on. This is politics. Nothing is inevitable. If you were commenting on a yahoo article, I might not have my dander up. But sheesh. Do your really believe anyone who "does politics" as a hobby, like the visitors of this blog, believes we won't have to work our asses off until every poll closes - and maybe after? Come on. FFS.

That said, Romney's favorables are in the toilet and continuing their downward spiral. Recent polls show a widening gap between him and Obama nationally and in key swing states. That's what it is today. Yes, it can change. It will change. And???

Obviously, from those numbers, >someone is paying attention. And this shit Romney's putting down? A lot of somebody's aren't buying it. Part of the problem, IMO, is that people have noticed Romney is a bit of a - ahem - LIAR. When people recognize that, they tend to take what you say with a grain of salt. etch-a-sketch indeed. And we have work to do even on that front.

Nevertheless, I'm quite sure Obama's and Biden's recent visits in key swing states and other places in the country have been well planned and strategically thought through. There's going to be plenty of time to enhance the way the public seems to already perceive Romney. He's been a big help so far and I'm excited to see how our side will help him along even further. I feel pretty good about our chances. So what? Romney, poor guy, is about to step into a shit storm.

    Popcorn.

    •  Did you read the diary? It assumes Mitt is doomed. (0+ / 0-)

This same time of year in 1980, Democrats were praying Reagan would be nominated; Carter was thought to be a shoo-in against him.

You think someone's paying attention? Not the lamebrain "undecided" and "independent" voters that will decide the election.

We have two national elections to judge Obama on. In one, he defeated an aging stumblebum who wore the worst economic disaster since the Great Depression, and an extremely unpopular war, around his neck. The other election, 2010, was a complete blowjob.

Even assuming Obama was lying when he said he didn't care if he won reelection or not, it's hard to have a lot of confidence in him as a politician or party leader. I'm glad you feel good about our chances. I hope you're right. But watching the Democrats gear up for a national election is like watching the 1962 Mets take the field. They so often find ways to lose.

If I knew it was comin', I could pull a jet plane.--Reggie Jackson
