Alito's reasoning for wanting to strike down the entire bill and not sever any of it completely contradict his reasoning for why the individual mandate is unconstitutional.  He is a total disgrace to the bench and the judicial profession.  He is a political hack in the extreme.

Roberts is a political hack too but I feel like there's something more with him though that gives me some hope.  He's authored a number of difficult First Amendment decisions where he basically adopted the jurisprudence of William O. Douglas.  I just don't think that a total Republican political hack could write an opinion that Douglas would author.  He also went along with decisions expanding both the 6th and 8th Amendments.  And he seems to be fairly politically astute (moreso than Samuel Alito) or at least tries to be.

On the Medicare argument though, I can see something different happenning.  Roberts has shown to be even more of a crazy states rights activist than Scalia.  So we'll see what happens.
