    Lying is a chargeable offense in the military.  For an Officer, it means certain discharge.

    Under Article 133 of the UCMJ - Conduct Unbecoming an Officer and a Gentleman:

    “Any commissioned officer, cadet, or midshipman who is convicted of conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.”

    The range of punishment is oral admonishment to death.  Thats right, tell a lie and you can be put to death.
