  •  TV messages are becoming increasingly... (23+ / 0-)

...personalized. I wrote quite a bit (much of it on another blog) about how this was HEAVILY tested in many areas via cable systems in the 2008 election. Targeted ads delivered to a SUBSET of homes in a given residential block; versus completely different ad content delivered to a different subset of homes on the SAME block, within the same TV buy, at the same moment. This is all VERY REAL, right now. The day is (basically) upon us where what you "think" you saw, may be in fact what you DO see, "sooner than you think." Yes, it's all quite creepy, IMHO. The abuse will be massive, if for no other reason than so much money's at stake (given a choice between delivering a POWERFUL ad versus one that's not as strong, we're talking about massive amounts of income opportunity for the advertiser; and we already know that when something becomes as MONETIZED as this reality is now becoming, a little thing like "THE LAW" tends to get contorted to support the status quo.)

I'm a witch, and they don't know my keys.  The only thing they can do is irritate me.  Not a good way to sell stuff.   Make me mad enough, and you could be facing an expensive and highly unusual weather event.  Haven't quite got the trick of tornadoes down yet, but I can do hurricanes, blizzards, and ice storms pretty good at the right seasons.

    •  No cable available where I choose to live. (0+ / 0-)

Wouldn't buy it if it was.
