    But the fact that even more than half the commenters in this diary think its a stretch, (and dkos is not representative of the general population or even the majority of the democratic party, not to mention indies), I think this would not find the sympathy you believe it would.
    Whatever the black letter of the law says, people know that the purpose of the law is to stop deliberate bribery for votes; and most people would agree that this is not anything close to being the mischief that this law is aimed at.

    Added to which, I would be astonished if the right could not find Democratic candidates who have arguably fallen foul of this or similar laws, which they could just turn straight back on us if we make a fuss about this.

    I can't get behind it. I just don't think it makes sense.
