    •  oh, hell no (6+ / 0-)

man does not live by organically grown food alone.

Any individual may choose to be perfect, doing only what it best in every situation (and assuming you could actually know what is best in every situation) but it is such a precarious undertaking, bound to failure.

Sometimes we get too bound up in our own little pie(ities) around here.   We are allowed choices, we are allowed preferences, even if they aren't 'good' for us.  Why else do words like liberal and catholic with a little 'c' exist.  From many, one, doesn't mean lockstep in action, but belief that despite differences we can happily co-exist.

So drink the coke,  eat a twinkie or their equivalents.  Life is too short to worry about a few chemicals being ingested.  What is important is that we are allowed to know the risks, make choices, and we don't force our choices or the costs of our choices on others in unfair ways.

It is not that Coke exists and it is an imperfect product that makes the Coca Cola corporation dangerous.  It is what that corporation does with its money made from selling us junk,  its choices that we don't challenge in packaging that destroys the environment or presents unacknowledged health risks.  It is that it uses its money to buy legislation that keeps us from knowledge or protection.  In that it is like every other multi-national.

But we can't boycott the whole commercial world all of the time.  We need to live in it and take joy in it even if it is imperfect.  Our lives are short, corporate life is perpetual.  Fight as and when you feel like it.
