Here is what I said in the previous comment:

"A gun is used in the comission of 67% of all the murders that occur in the US.

By getting rid of guns, we would eliminate the cause of two thrids of US murders."

No where did I say that "removing firearms would prevent all homicides committed with a firearm from ever occurring."

It is my belief that removing firearms would dramatically reduce the number of murders, but I can't prove that nor do I state that as a fact.

Are you claiming that the number of murder would be unchanged after removing firearms?  Do you really suppose One Goh or Jared Loughner would have been able to kill as many people as they did without a gun?  Without guns, how many people would be injured in drive-by knifing?  How many fathers facing divorce would decide to beat the children, wife, and themselves to death with a baseball bat?

Of course people will go right on killing each other regardless of the availability of guns.  But the gun is much easier and much more lethal than any of the other methods.  Plus the gun works well at a distance where other methods require the user to get up close and thereby take a greater risk.  Without guns, people might try to kill each other at the same frequency as they do today (tho' I doubt it), but clearly they would not be as successful without a gun.

    •  Again, unsupported assertions. (5+ / 0-)

Just because you say it doesn't make it so.
Do you really suppose One Goh or Jared Loughner would have been able to kill as many people as they did without a gun?
As I already answered -- yes.  A homemade bomb, or something as simple as a "molotov cocktail" could have easily killed as many, or more, people.

You are making assertions of fact here which are simply not supportable by what you have provided.

Yes, I often dress as a pirate. Your point?
