to the polls as well.  In Red States that means he'd rally more Repubs than he'd get Dems out.   Dems do better in red states when the races are not seen through a national prism.  Make it about Heitkamp vs Berg and Heidi has a better chance than if it's Obama vs Romney with Heitkamp vs Berg on the undercard.

Obama campaigning in MT and SD will rally zilch more people to the polls.

There aren't people out there who need more motivation to vote against Obama.

Montana especially is the #3 or #4 swing state of this cycle, and for Tester to win he needs significant campaigning and help from Obama to set the agenda and convince people his stands on the issues are the right ones.

Mr. Gorbachev, establish an Electoral College!

Instead of Martha's Vineyard, couldn't the Obamas borrow a ranch from Ted Turner, or a lodge in the Rockies, or something, to put in a week or two in Montana in August?

I agree that the Haters will vote against Obama no matter what.

But a strong campaign could convince discouraged Democrats and Obama-favoring independents that their votes will not be wasted. The ground game of a combined campaign could only be a plus for down-ticket Democrats.
