    been addressed by my first name for 20 years prior to choosing to teach in our schools, it was a little difficult for me to get used the more formal address.

    However, I think it makes sense.  In college, I always referred to my instructors as Dr. or Professor.  In school, I addressed my teachers as Mr. or Mrs. or Ms.  It's part of the relationship between a "master" or knowledge and the student learning that body of knowledge.  It's part of the respect for that body of knowledge that is being passed as the process of learning.
