  •  Certainly exposing Mittens for the Olympic Liar (15+ / 0-)

    he truly is will be necessary for an Obama victory. But I think it will also require properly exposing Romney/Ryan's social Darwinism. I still think too many are underestimating the importance of driving that meme for all it's worth. GOP policies have killed people and will continue to kill people. That is not hyperbole, it is lit-er-all-y true.

    •  If you're going to do that, you'll have to find (10+ / 0-)

      a better term than "social Darwinism".  The people who need to get this message likely have no idea what it means.  It'll be a clearer message if it's framed as "you're on your own" or the like.  Also "fair shake" sounds, to me, like something that's hard to argue with.

      "The American people want a fair shake."  I'd srsly love to see the Republicans try to twist or rebut that.  It could be hilarious.

      •  I adimantly disagree about the effectiveness of (5+ / 0-)

        the term social Darwinism. I feel so passionately that we need to add this to our arsenol that I might just do a diary on it.

        I don't think it's a difficult task to explain what social Darwinism is. And when you put that definition up against GOP "let the old die, let the sick die, let Detroit die, let them all die so long as we get paid" policies, I think more people than we think will finalyy see the stark choice. There are now more than a few former Rs in WI, MI, and OH now that folks have a clearer understanding of what the GOP gospel is really all about.

        Even if it doesn't get folks off the fence and out for Dems, it will hopefully and intentionally persuade evangelicals to just stay home. For those with ears willing to hear, make sure they better understand that the GOP pols they've been told they should vote for are completely antithetical to their own understanding of the gospel. They need to feel that neither choice would be acceptable in good conscience and in obedience to their beliefs. They don't need to vote for Obama. They just need to stay home.

        With Mittens bearing false witness 24/7 and his embracing of the Paul Ryan Job-killing Path to Poverty, also referred to as the Romney/Ryan Road to Ruin, it ought to be easy peasy to paint him as no more worthy of their vote than Obama.

          than I have and houyhnhnm, in the next reply, raises something I had no idea of - that it's a dog whistle for some evangelicals.  If that's the case, maybe the term is more familiar than I realized.

            It does have elements that will, yes, be a very effective dog whistle with certain types. They'll be open to hearing and understanding what it is. It becomes a matter of getting them to acknowledge to themselves that in reality GOP pols are pracitioners of this perverted theology.

            There is no shortage of examples of GOP policy that is not doing unto others as you'd have them do unto you. Plenty of laws that clearly contradict loving their neighbors as themselves.

            If we don't milk the social Darwinist meme for all it's worth we're passing up a very effective, easily and cheaply implemented tactic for depressing an already depressed GOP base.

            Clear choice in November.
            GOP= Let them die
            Dem = Help them live

            final thought - there are right wingers who will and are sockpuppetting in the blogosphere convincing liberals that they should just stay home as well because Obama isn't everything they want him to be. Most will get out and vote. Thankfully I believe a majority, on sufficiently understanding how fearful they should rightfully be of GOP rule will vote to re-elect the best Dems possible.

              back to Dec/2010.  Did many (or any) have an inkling what the Republican hordes would do when they were licensed to rampage at will?

              And think ahead to the Republicans winning the Presidency and Congress.  How far does one's imagine reach?  Why would they stop at taking away women's rights?  Salami slice by salami slice they could start restricting the right to vote.  Once they've molded the electorate to their liking, they'll pass whatever laws they like.  And with one more judge on the Supreme Court (because Anthony Kennedy can be wet on occasion) there'll be nothing to stop them.

                terrify any sane person. Just look at the wreckless abandon in MI, not even bothering to actually count votes in the legislature, just ramrodding law after law that makes it harder and harder for the people to have a voice. That's exactly what we can expect in the US congress if they get total control again. The end game is to make it illegal for Dems to govern ever again.

        I believe.  He's turning it back on them. Brilliant. The biology teacher in me is doing a facepalm, though. Sigh
