  •  I saw this on Rachel last night and thought WHY (38+ / 0-)

has no one taken this to court before now?  WHY did the people of benton go along with this dictatorial takeover?  Why didn't benton go the WI route and come out en masse and say NO? Why are the people of MI allowing the republicans do do these ILLEGAL things? and what the hell is wrong with the MI Democrats?

it was as clear as Day that the MI legislature has done illegal and probably UNCONSTITUTIONAL things that no one in MI seems to challenge... the video of a vote count that didnt count ANY votes was blatant proof of this.... yet the MI Democrats are just NOW going the court route?

I am not a lawyer or a constitutional expert but it seems to me that there is a case to be made at the FEDERAL LEVEL and to the DOJ of illegal activity of a voting rights nature and VOTING RIGHTS are protected at the Federal level...no?  or are state voting rights not protected at all?

WI gave us all a blueprint on how to successfully fight back against this right wing overreach and anti democratic crap... WHY did the people of MI ignore that blueprint and let Republicans overturn democracy without any serious fight to stop them.

I just do not understand WHY this was allowed to happen in MI

    •  That makes two of us, and (10+ / 0-)

there is no change in sight.   If there's any action to fund and organized an opposition, I am unaware of it.

so easily, for so long, and for so many devastating bills.  Not much of a minority party presence, to say the least.  Surely they must have known about the required 2/3 super-majority.

    •  Benton Harbor did Protest (1+ / 0-)

There were lots of protests with many visits by high profile activists like Sharpton and Moore trying to draw attention.  Benton Harbor only has a population of a little over 10,000, but they made a lot of noise. Sadly they did not get any National attention outside of Progressive media.

It is simply shocking that the Democrats have waited so long to protest the Republicans simply ignoring the State Constitution and allowed them to implement radical legislation instantly without the required number of votes.

People in MI are really upset and regular everyday people would be willing to put up a fight if somebody could organize them. My own family in MI who are all over 65, life long Democrats, but very low information voters have shocked me by actually expressing political views and a desire to do something.
