As disgusting and depraved as Limbaugh is, ALEC is far worse in its racism, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia, anti-environmental, anti-worker stances and actions.
This is an organization with blood on their hands.

If ALEC becomes too radioactive to function (i.e. its public image matches too closely its actual function), then it is no longer useful to its chief sponsors. Koch brothers, Walmart, the NRA, etc. can all afford lobbyists and ad campaigns of their own. The value of ALEC was that it let them leverage their dollars by pulling in mostly neutral companies who agreed with one or two minor ALEC causes, and it let them pursue unpopular policies under the guise of broad acceptance.

If this broader value disappears, those sponsors will of course keep funding their own narrow campaigns. And, in time the same broader scam will reappear under a new name. When a speakeasy gets raided, the party just moves to a new address. So, let's use the window of disarray to get a better picture of some of the players, so we can spot the new operation easier.
