Having just ended a three-year tenure as an apartment manager, during which I swept and mopped floors, cleaned out laundry rooms, emptied wastebaskets and removed bugs from wall sconces (don't ask), vacuuming, and being at the beck and call of over thirty residents, I salute you.

I think everyone who is in a leadership position, whether political, corporate, non-profit, religious, whatever - should have to take a six-month sabbatical every ten years, during which they do so-called "menial" tasks, like answering phones, working in a packing plant or sorting mail.   If they want to lead, let them find out firsthand what is like being led.  And live off that salary.
