    "Crown" in reference to a hat worn to Church was on the TV series "The Wire".

    In Australia, probably about 40 or so, probably more, wearing a hat to church would have been considered mandatory.  As with proper hats in general, they are a rare sight these days.  No one really dresses up all that much when going to church that I have seen.  Casual has taken over, as is the trend all over the world.

    I have to say, they really do look like a wonderfully beautiful crown for a beautiful woman.  So lovely to see a photo, and I think I will have to buy that book to find out more.
