  •  As a former long distance runner, (8+ / 0-)

I can attest to the value of walking as part of a run.  I was a competitive runner who had some success winning my age group on a fairly regular basis.  I used to always walk through the water stops and it never hurt my times or placement.  I even found that walking up a steep hill was often faster, since often I passed people struggling to run it.

Now due to age and chronic plantar fasciitis, I do mostly walking or a combination of walk/jog 3.7 ,iles each day for exercise.

These two posts are very important for people beginning to run.  Running should be fun, first and foremost.  And being injured is no fun.  So do all you can to avoid injury and have fun!
