Mr. Cheney and Ms. Brown received similar tests in their pursuit of medical care, but the treatment and outcome are vastly different. Are the medical personnel looking after Mr. Cheney more skilled? Do they have better equipment, better ultrasounds than the hospitals involved with Ms. Brown?

    Highly unlikely.

What is more likely is that the "class" differences between Ms. Brown and Mr. Cheney determined the type of treatment and respect they received. Ms. Brown was homeless, black, female and undereducated regarding medical jargon and the health care system. Mr. Cheney is a white male and wealthy. Even if he can't translate the medical jargon, he can pay someone to do it for him.

Who speaks for Ms. Brown? Ms. Brown was only 29. What if her health problems had been addressed and she had lived? Now, who will be financially responsible for the extra burden placed on Ms. Brown's family to raise her children? Who is going to explain to those children that the life of their mother was not worthy of excellent medical treatment, like Mr. Cheney received?
