    He interviewed an international hit man and learned of the head of the Jewish Defense League's attempts to hire him to assassinate Yassir Arafat. I believe the hit man's name was John Dain or some such.

    Then, interviewing the JDL head he of course met the most strenuous, categorical denials. Then Wallace played him his recordings Dain had made of his conversation in which the target and the payment were discussed in some detail. The JDL idiot then tried to walk it all back as some sort of fantasizing. He was totally and utterly bagged. Then Wallace pointed out that, at that time, it was not a crime to plot in the US to kill a foreign national on foreign soil.

    Brilliant stuff, and the foundation on which the show's reputation was built. Sadly, not so much hard hitting from Wallace in his later years, and a whole lot less since his departure.
