    Some natural slicks in the GOM are huge and mappable on satellite imagery.

      I still think this is an significantly large enough slick to say that it is probably man made.  The satellite detection your link described needed special filters to see and from what I infer from what I have read so far, this is much more visible than that.

      Good link with a lot of good information though.
