Hillary Rosen, in my admittedly uninformed opinion, opted to attempt a meaningless "knockout punch" by skewering Ann Romney for not being qualified to speak for "the vast majority of women." Focused more on winning the soundbite skirmish at the moment than anything else. It's what pundits do.

To stick with the boxing metaphor, she could have opted to go with asserting that Ann Romney has been a stay-at-home mom all her life - always with staff - and never had to juggle that and any kind of Sector career outside of home and hearth. It might not have registered any "points" in the news cycle, but it would have been more helpful than harmful in the immediate feeding frenzy and in the residual skirmishes to come.

That said, this will probably blow over before the weekend, replaced by some other GOP poutrage. I'm not sure Rosen even rates a warning from the referee (again, returning to the boxing metaphor). Sound and fury, signifying nothing. Rosen will eventually get credit for "mixing it up" with the other punditry, giving as good as she gets.

Ann Romney becomes slightly more sympathetic for a time. Though I doubt very seriously that Team rMONEY can effectively and consistently follow up and make it a beachhead to permanently eroding the Gender Gap.
