  •  Again, not in favorability with the electorate (0+ / 0-)

as a whole, which is precisely what these threads about "least popular nominee from either party since 1996" and "least popular Republican nominee in recent history" are skirting around.

The reason why Romney is in a worse position than Clinton isn't raw numbers; it's because Clinton had the campaigning skills to overcome those numbers and Romney does not.

If the jobs situation does not improve, however, he may not need them, even if Obama is a more able politician than Bush given the way things stand economically

    •  Clinton still much more popular than Romney (0+ / 0-)

      as far as own party.

    •  You are wrong in your assertion (0+ / 0-)

The quoted article above has Clinton at a -14 favorability level with the general electorate.

PPP's most recent national poll has Mitt at a -25 favorability level... about 75% worse.

Within his own party... Romney far worse than Clinton.
Within the general electorate... Romney far worse than Clinton.

      Clinton within party = 64%    Mitt = 42%
      Clinton with general public = -14%  Mitt = -25%

Your assertion is way, way off base.  Romney has to improve his levels more than 50% to get to Clinton levels.

Mr. Gorbachev, establish an Electoral College!
