  •  Both major parties have given up essentially. (10+ / 0-)

Republicans have essentially given up on American industry and just want to bleed the country dry until its a carcus. Then they'll just move to the Caymans. No biggie.

The Democrats just don't have any will to do anything that challenges the status quo.

We essentially have a status quo party and a radical party. There is no real progress party in this country anymore.

So that's why this isn't a crisis. What in the past would be thought of as a crisis is just the new normal.

    •  Bad news for us (0+ / 0-)

Since the status quo means giving the 1% everything they want.

So we've got the choice between a carcass and a plutocracy.

    •  I think the Status Quo label applies (0+ / 0-)

to Senate Democrats, but not to the House. The Pelosi-led House passed a lot of great bills in 2009-10 that died in the Senate - a Senate with 58-59 Democratic votes the whole time, and 60 for a few months.

The Senate's filibuster rules are the ultimate status quo enforcer - which is why they need to be changed if we ever expect anything to get done.

      •  The House passed some decent bills, (4+ / 0-)

mainly on the social side of the ledger. But on the economic side it mostly just cemented the status quo in place. There was no real attack on the ridiculous state of fail this country has become. Just sort of trying to do enough to keep it afloat.

I enjoy politics a lot. I really do. Like sports. But quite frankly the choice this November is mainly between the status quo of slow decline and a radical jump off a cliff.
