  •  Stop with the mama grizzly BS, already. (8+ / 0-)

While I totally agree with everything that Hilary Rosen said-- I also agree with you that, because people like Sarah Palin are just waiting in the wings, drooling to get their half-wit, 2 cents in - she created an unnecessary distraction.

But, really, I blame the media, who just is drooling for a "good" story -- good, meaning, something that will sell, not something that actually is worth printing or posting.

I said in another diary that my husband and I do not have the choice to stay home and watch our child. This is true, but it is complicated.

While we are both successful at what we do, if one of us stops working, we wouldn't be able to provide the kind of life for our child that we would want for her (a random trip to Disneyworld, a ballet class here, a quality pre-school there). We are not rich, by any means, but we are doing OK. If one of us stopped working, a lot of the things we'd like to provide to our child would not be able to be provided.

While the anti-women, anti-family policies Mitt AND Ann (yes, I hold her accountable) do affect me and my family - we are among the lucky ones.

For the working poor, there is absolutely no choice at all.

As I said in a prior comment, the half-wits will make this into the SAHM vs. working mom wars. Let them.

Intelligent men and women will see the truth, regardless of how it is obscured by those on the right.

I heard just a little bit of "are we missing the larger point?" on MSNBC last night, only to have it run over by how horribly Hilary Rosen must hate moms.  Seriously.  ON MSNBC.

My household increasingly looks like a lot of two-parent/partner working households: I earn more than my husband.  Substantially more.  It comes down to career choice - my husband works as hard as I do, but I'm in a lucrative field.  We could not afford life if I lost my job - and in the past, I HAVE lost my job (though not recently, thank God and knock on wood).  And that's with a high income and a working spouse.

I can't imagine what it would be like to earn a below- or slightly above-poverty level income as a single mother.  And the policies of the right want to rip the rug out from under them all while laboring under some halcyon, Mad Men inspired view of where a woman's place is.

      I call bullshit.

    •  SHE did not create the "unnecessary distraction" (5+ / 0-)

The media and the Republicans did that. We need to stop taking the bait. No prominent Democrat should have addressed this, let alone apologized or distanced themselves from it. Rather, they should have asked the media person addressing them if they had yet asked Allen West to provide his list of sitting Democrats in Congress who are active members of the Communist Party, along with proof, and if they plan to demand that, failing to do so, he be denounced by Republican leadership across the board.

Take the "Can't(or)" out of Congress. Support E. Wayne Powell in Va-07.

BUT - having said that - Every Democrat of any repute and Hilary Rosen herself know how bloodthirsty and egalitarian the media are about hyping non-troversies.

We need to go on offense - as the previous comment says - about things that are batshit crazy, like Allen West's communist list. I totally agree.

But Democrats also need to be careful about word choice. Now that she's "walked back" her statements, it makes the Republicans who were so "up in arms" appear (to unintelligent, potential voters) to have had a point - which obviously they didn't!!

Re: A FREAKING MEN's post -  That was on MSNBC? Wow. Amazing.
