  •  I was raised a Catholic (8+ / 0-)

but those in the Church now do not follow the dictates of their faith.  They use to be about social justice and helping the poor.

Catholics like all the other so called Christians sold their souls when they aligned themselves with the religious right and the repub party.

Repub Christians are not true Christians.  They do not follow the Prince of Peace.  They do not follow the Sermon on the Mount.

I have no idea what religions they do follow.  Just think how HE must feel.

    •  There is still social justice, but, there (4+ / 0-)

does seem to be a huge emphasis on abortion, something I have never seen as a religious issue, or at least, not something I am going to get all excited about. That's just me, I think it is more of an individual medical issue and think that the Church should help the poor more.

    •  There was a nice social justice letter printed in (3+ / 0-)

the Atlanta daily paper recently. I agreed with everything the writer, apparently a nun, said except the phrase, "Catholic teaching misunderstood."

The problem is that most non-Catholics get their idea of Catholic teachings by reading the utterances of the Pope, Cardinals, and Bishops--and those, so often, are the opposite of the beliefs and lives of the social justice Catholics.
