  •  Very nice (9+ / 0-)

Love the pictures.  I'm definitely going to have to get some of that coral bean - I saw a lot on St George last weekend.  Very attractive.

I think your eastern pond hawk ID is correct.  They are by far the most commonly seen dragonfly in my yard, at least at ground level.  Mostly females or immatures like yours.

I have a copy of 'Dragonflies and Damselflies of Georgia and the Southeast' which is an attractive and excellent book.  I think it should cover any species found at your house or mine but maybe not everything down closer to the coast.

    •  Bird observations (8+ / 0-)

Heard a barred owl in our neighborhood last night.  Very common occurrence in Tallahassee but not so much around our house in the past, presumably due to the presence of Great Horned Owls.  The GHOs seem to have left for other parts  and the Barred are staking out new territory.

Saw only a single coot on the lake just now.  They seem to have left earlier than in the past.  Also a harrier which was a bit of a surprise.  Have been seeing Wood Storks more often than in past years, possibly the low water in the lake is providing good hunting.

I've stopped filling the feeders and in the heat of the afternoon it is now pretty quiet in the yard.

I'm going to backlight for insects again tonight.
