Buffett rule is fine, but it's a bandand.

We can only "Hope" that it's a lead-in to an actual progressive push from the Obama administration for a more progressive tax system.  If he stops here, doesn't let the Bush tax cuts expire, and does nothing to continue to MAKE THE ISSUE OF TAXING THE WEALTHY A CENTERPIECE OF PROGRESSIVE STRATEGY, then it's craven politics from him.

If he stop here, it's kabuki to get reelected.  If progressives let him off the hook, they're damn fools and we'll get the country we deserve:  one that continues to rip us all off.

So far, the duck has quacked like a moderate-to-conservative corporatist.  A little squacking from it about a basically dead-center position isn't going to convince me he actually means to fight for any legit change.

The Buffett rule should be the compromise position after you've fought like hell to tax the wealthy like it's 1945.  The truth of his legacy will be whether he continues to fight like hell to push the needle further to the left, or he claims historic victory.

What's wrong under Republicans is still wrong under Democrats.
