They don't mention that more often, and how the disease manifests itself.

One of my husbands friends has ms. He plays golf, except when he can't, and he can't predict when that will be. He works, but at a flexible job where he can not work if he can't manage it.

But to see him on the street, you wouldn't know he was sick. And most of the time, he can do pretty much anything he wants.

    Until he can't.

He'll likely get worse as the disease progresses, but you never know. I've had neighbors with ms, some needed wheelchairs, some canes, some seemed fine.

    Until they weren't.

did fund raising work for non-profit health organizations.

Fund raising - considered a dirty profession by many.

But when I was a young middle school age kid I was taken to a party/gathering at a local MS chapter he was working for. (Parents were divorced & I was on visit time).

I don't think I had seen so many people in wheel chairs, trembling, bent over, etc together before in my life.  He carefully explained to me they had an incurable disease, and couldn't help what they looked like, and he was trying to raise $$ for them to make their life easier.

I have some horrible memories of this man, he could be very mean.  But his genuine concern for the people and their families at this gathering, was something I never forgot.  And this was in the late 50's before so many advances of MS medicines have occurred.  Needless to say, I have since realized that many other nasty diseases fall into this category.

And another reason the Republicans & Bush stopping stem cell research is so very wrong.

My wife has MS.  She never talks about it either, except to me, since she's not the kind of person who wants the attention, and Mrs. Romney might be the same way.  I would feel more kindly to both of them, knowing how hard it is for a family with one of the members having this horrible disease, except for one thing: they both oppose stem cell research.  The one thing that could possibly find a cure, and help millions of people live long, normal lives, and they oppose it.  Obviously I would never have voted for Romney in the first place, but this just cinches it.  If you're so ideologically rigid that you can't even bend a bit to support something that could help your damn wife, then fuck you.
