  •  My parents get lots of calls in their old, old age (3+ / 0-)

They are Republicans, and they have given money to the RNC, but they are HOUNDED by callers, from morning till night. Charmingly, they lie for each other: if she answers, Mom (85) says my father is not available, and vice versa. He's 91. They have a landline - same number since 1957. Fortunately, they still have their wits.

    Thanks for writing about this.

    •  My experience.... (6+ / 0-)

After my husband's mom passed away, we started helping his dad pay his bills.  We were inundated every month with all kinds of problems.  The most common were the magazine companies.  They'd send a renewal notice every month. (They still do.)  I hate to think how many times his mom paid those bills without realizing she couldn't possibly be up for renewal.  It took us over a year of writing complaint letters and calling to get the problems straightened out.  But still, pretty much every month, there's something new to take care of.  Once we had to call several times to explain to a magazine company that his mom couldn't possibly have authorized the renewal they claimed she had authorized since she'd been dead for over a year.  It really is a business plan for many companies to have shaky practices where elderly people are concerned.
