  •  Broken version of pavers (6+ / 0-)

The city was replacing the sidewalks in our neighbor hood so I asked them to just dump a few loads on the lawn....not realizing some (many) of the chunks between 4" and 6" thick......very heavy and irregular. Fortunately we have 2 strong sons with friends.....and they all owed me a favor! It was a long summer of concrete breaking, hauling and setting, but 17 yrs later we are still enjoying the result.

The upper patio is about 12' by 14'. Two steps down, the lower patio is more irregular, but I can seat  18  people there for lunch, and the entrance walkway links it all together. After years of planting between the pavers with all the classics...wooly thyme, blue star creeper, etc I have the most luck with violas and baby tears.

It was a labor intensive project, but the price was right and I love the old rustic look. Thanks for sharing your lovely garden.

Love is the lasting legacy of our lives
