They moved the NOAA office from Seattle to Newport, Oregon, a small town far from airports and potential workers.  It seemed like a really odd move.  I can't help but think it was politics of some sort rather than a solid professional reason.  If answering would get you in trouble, don't worry about it, but I really would like to know the true motivation behind the move.

    •  There definitely was politicking involved, (6+ / 0-)

But I think it was more the office variety than the Washington variety - I've been told that it was a power grab by the Atlantic office, who correctly guessed that the Seattle employees would retire instead of move.  It was before my time, and is all rumors and hearsay, so take that with the appropriate grain of salt.  It has unarguably resulted in a consolidation of almost all fleet management functions into the Norfolk, VA office, which has.. probably not been a net positive for the fleet.

It surely can't have helped the west coast office.  It was probably great for Newport, but it is going to be really hard to get professionals to relocate there,  Thanks for the info.
