  •  My desired 'revenge' (6+ / 0-)

would be to verbally 'tell off' a couple of people, and have to have them stand there and take it, just like I had to - sometimes physically.  Pretty mild in the total scheme of things!

My paternal grandfather from Denmark worked on ships as a mechanic/machinist and then in the Boston Navy yard.  He lost his hearing due to the noise - take care of yours!

Today his only living grandchild loves to be on boats.  Last year we took a transAtlantic journey on the cruise ship Constellation, and I really enjoyed the engine control room tour.  Kept wondering what he would think of the marine engine rooms of today.  I believe what caused the most damage on the recent Azamara cruise ship fire in the Philippines was the electrical system frying from a board being scorched on a fire. And of course marine environments are hard on electrical systems.

Georges Bank area is beautiful - and of course can be stormy!

Seems to me you are building good skills, which can be used on cruise ships, which might be a nicer place to work than a tanker.

We had a friend, now deceased, who had a similar job on submarines.  I was surprised that Curt was a civilian, and the Navy didn't have some career officer available.

    Take care-
