    I worked summers for money for room & board and books.  I worked 20 hours a week at a pizza shop for minimum wage ($1.25/hour) for spending money.  My parents paid my tuition of about $600/year.  Adding it all together I lived on between $2500 - $3000 a year.  

    I lived at home for free in the summers and while doing my student teaching.  My senior year I was so poor I qualified for food stamps.  My big indulgence was that once a month I would by the current issue of The National Lampoon and 4 oz of cashews.
