I suppose there are church songs common to both white and black churches altho I have yet to heard any white person sing Thomas Dorsey's seminal hymn. But why are these others "stolen"? Why can't they be appreciated and shared?

That came out of the African-American experience....jazz, soul, blues, R&B, ragtime, rock and roll, etc. all came out of the black church. The harmonies, chord structure and progressions, etc. of all of the 'secular' forms are all drawn from the sacred music of the black church... So if those things have been appropriated by white america then gospel was stolen too... And Thomas Dorsey would be better described as the originator of the gospel music industry; gospel music existed long before Dorsey wrote Precious Lord...in fact, it existed long before Dorsey existed.

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.
