The big hitters are worried about THEIR lobbying efforts coming to light.

It was easy for them to support ALEC and have ALEC do the dirty work as long as ALEC stayed under the radar and out of sight. Now that ALEC is in the spotlight, the cockroaches are racing for the crevices.

They aren't going to change what they are lobbying for (less regulation, lower taxes, more anti-union legislation, no meaningful immigration reform, no harsher penalties on employers who employ undocumented workers), but they'll do it themselves or use new proxies.

ALEC's mistake was getting involved in social legislation. Had they stuck to the plan of supporting the emerging plutocracy, they'd have been fine. But, they stuck their noses in the anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage rights issues tangential to their anti-universal health care agenda, and it's coming back to haunt them.
