a home-state senator this might have some legs.  People have been reluctant to use the word "unchristian" to describe the strong-arm tactics of the religious extremists who prop up the republican party.

About damn time someone calls them out.

..."no, but I have a sticky Warhead in my pocket."

    •  These are the twin memes: (4.00)
Unchristian and Unamerican. We need to hammer these truths about the Republican Party and the faux Christians home.

Steven D wrote a diary a few days ago about the need to describe the Republicans as what they are: Unamerican. He then listed a bunch of Republican actions that fit the term.

Perhaps it's time for someone to write a similar diary describing the Republicans and the faux Christians as Unchristian. I don't feel qualified to write that diary, but I'll certainly recommend it.

I'm not comfortable with the idea of pairing those ideas-- the main point, from a political perspective, is that they really are un-American.  They certainly don't seem very Christian in that they really only cite Jesus' words & meaning as footnotes, but there's more room for debate on that charge.  Anyway, one can obviously be Christian and not American, and one can be American & not Christian.

I've had debates with people here who demur at calling them un-Christian. "Let's leave the harsh language to them. We're better than that."

To me, that is utterly self-centered. It's like lying back, lighting a vanilla candle and softly stroking your spiritual clitoris as America burns around you. That's not Christianity either; it's not just faith, it's works, last I heard.

Stirling pointed out another excellent point today.

It's great and proper to call these people extremist. But you can't leave it there because contrary to urban myth, these people do not represent the extreme leading edge of mainstream views. Their views are complete different from the mainstream and utterly foreign to most Americans. To argue otherwise is only right-wing propaganda.

      •  softly stroking your spiritual clitoris!!!! (none)

        (that's all)

From Republicans who say, "Well I don't hold that view." Then decry it, I say.  Speak out against it. Otherwise you're a good German, good for nothing except whining, "We didn't know, we had no idea, really."  Many people I talk to simply refuse to see the evidence in front of their eyes.   It's so damning, they just can't believe it and think we liberal lefties have cooked it all up.
