from behind a glass cage at The Hague.  That puts it in better perspective for me.

On the one hand, I think he should get down on his hands and knees and thank the Obama administration for protecting him from the justice he so surely deserves.

They tortured people, they spied on people, they arrested people without cause, and they argued that the constitution should support all of those things.  They put us in the same category of nations as North Korea, outside the realm of what is considered moral behavior by other developed countries.  They started pointless wars for manufactured reasons, and the reasons weren't even manufactured VERY WELL.  They left the economy in a state verging on depression (those were George W. Bush's words in Sept. '08), bailed out large banks with trillions of dollars, NO STRINGS ATTACHED, because, if you put strings on the free money you just hand over to rich people, that's not capitalist.

I have a whole lot of beefs with the Obama administration and (hate me if you like) I'm not convinced at this late date that things might not have turned out better if McCain had won.  But EVEN SO there can be no doubt in my mind that Bush was the worst president we ever had.  I pray he is the worst we will ever have.

And I think it's going to take some years for it to really, really, really sink in, just how bad he was.  At some point, the same old prevaricating movement conservatives that will support any inconsistency to the death will themselves die or just move on to some other cause.  And without the liars and the alternative reality they promote, there's nothing left at all to protect them from the cleansing light of truth.

Thanks for your comment, Dumbo. But we wouldn't have the auto industry if McCain had won. We might not have had the stimulus package, without which we would surely have gone into technical economic depression.

But I'm with you in praying that Bush-Cheney is the worst we ever have.

would have been basically the same, with only the trimmings different.  The same rich corporations and executives would have made off like the bandits they are.

We don't realize that most of the complaints that the right have against Obama's policies are really against Obama, not the policies, and they are the same as what the Republicans have endorsed and pushed before.  Like... Romneycare.  The bailouts started under Bush Jr.  Then McCain wanted to Obama to join him in suspend campaigning so they could rush to Washington and pass bills to bailout the financial sector and stick it to the rest of us.

We'll have to agree to disagree on most of this.  Things probably wouldn't have been that much worse under McCain, and probably better in some respects, for instance, with regards to the rule of law and setting limits on torture.

your suggestion that we may have been better had McCain won.  I can't possibly agree to that.  The consequences of a McCain victory would have been horrible.  The only possible silver lining to a McCain victory would have been that perhaps the GOP would have totally collapsed in the vortex of another great depression.  I know we all have a lot of problems with Geithner et al, but at least we still have an economy.
