and he's going to need a home soon, since Xoco just will not relax and like him.

      •  I thought that might be the case (0+ / 0-)

He might do better in a household where he is the only dog, too.

But Xoco is all stressed out.  The only time she calls a truce is at the water bowl.  All the rest of the time, she either hides beside me or climbs up somewhere high enough to be out of Hector's reach.

Hector, of course, being a puppy, wants to be in everyone's face all the time and to play. He's already at 7 pounds (when we got him last week, he weighed 4 pounds), and is the usual puppy klutz.

He's learning quickly not to bite, and he's developing a soft mouth, but Xoco doesn't care. As far as she's concerned, he's not welcome. There are other dogs she's welcomed into the house - my son's male Husky puppy, for example, or my daughter's female hyperactive MinPin, or the librarian's male rough coated collie. So it's not size, age, or gender that is setting Xoco against him.

I have no idea why she doesn't like Hector, just like I have no idea why she hates my youngest with every molecule in her body.
