that somehow keeps majorities from passing legislation. 1700's fail.

    •  Filibuster doesn't stop (6+ / 0-)

proposing legislation to get Repubs on record voting. Senate Dems, though, still don't see that as something worthwhile to do, strangely enough. House Dems have led the way ever since 2006.

      •  Did you see all the crap the Dems caught for the (0+ / 0-)

Buffett Rule vote on this site yesterday? It was called "Kabuki" and frankly I tend to agree with the thought process that you should know you're going to at least be close to passing something before wasting the time/money on a vote.

We pay for the Senate whether they pass any votes or not.

If they hadn't voted on this issue, they probably would not have even been in session. They don't exactly work the same kind of 8x5 schedule we plebes work (those of us who are fortunate enough to be not only gainfully employed, but also in a full-time work schedule).

bill itself was less than useful, which may have been a result of trying to count votes before proposing it. Propose good legislation and get it shot down? Smart politics. Propose a piece of crap (not saying Buffett was that) and get it shot down anyway? Weak.

    •  Darn filibuster (0+ / 0-)

Thanks be to Aaron Burr who as a senator said we didn't need a closure rule and so it was removed. Maybe they didn't talk as much in his day.
