  •  I'm not sure what you mean by this. (5+ / 0-)

How is raising one's children (instead of being forced to go back to work and leaving that to a poorly paid childcare worker or a generous family member) not the ultimate in responsible behavior?

It's a personal choice to have children.  With it comes many tough decisions.  The first of  which is, can I or we afford to raise a child?  That's what grown ups do.  Take personal responsibility.

have children. Nice dystopia you have there, Frank. It'd be a shame if something were to happen to it . . .

of the ability to make THAT choice, by making affordable contraception harder to get — to say nothing of outlawing abortion. And yes, "grownups" who get accidentally pregnant despite taking precautions often decide responsibly to have an abortion because they cannot raise a child - and that's yet another choice the right wants to take away. A choice, by the way, that always would have been available to Ann if she had wanted or needed it.

      •  Even the most responsible people (0+ / 0-)

have to deal with the possibility of a broken condom, a failed birth control pill,  bad math with the rhythm method, and other assorted birth control failures.

Unless you're Rick Santorum, you can't honestly expect a married couple to not have sex.

So what do you do if you have an accidental pregnancy and you don't want / can't afford / don't have access to an abortion?

Give the kid up to the loving care of the state? Maybe the kid will luck out and end up in a good home.

Or do take whatever help you can get, work as much as you can to get by and still have time to raise the kid?
