    ....but it didn't.  He was still a closet bigot.  My tool-store boss didn't use ethnic slurs or anything overt, but every time there was a black or hispanic customer in the store while he was there, he'd do the creeper bit and walk up behind me and watch.  If you're white, it would be easy to miss, but it's there like elevator music.  That's why the Mittens line "He's a nice guy, but..." grates in my ears.  I don't know if Mittens meant it as a racist dog whistle or not,  it sounds like one to me.
