  •  Mendacity and sociopathology (6+ / 0-)

Sociopaths do not perceive lying the same way as normal folks.  Often superficially charming, they are basically manipulative and self-serving, seeing others as objects to be used for their own ends. They feel entitled to certain things as their right.

They have no problem lying skillfully, and are rarely consistently truthful.  They often conjure complex self-images of mastery and power that they use to justify anti-social behavior.

They often choose occupations such as gambling, politics, finance, business promotion, and sales in which facile lying is a most useful skill.

Warmth and normal compassion are mostly an act, usually serving hidden motives.  And, lacking a genuine personhood,  they do not perceive a lie as a lie, or a promise as a promise.

Romney, and way too many of the leaders by whom we have been seduced are simply SOCIOPATHS.

    •  Romney and Bush are both sociopaths (4+ / 0-)

You're quite right: sociopaths don't perceive lying the same way as normal folks do. Anything that furthers their cause is a good and necessary tool, and that includes lying.

Romney can't relate to normal people because he just doesn't see us as people. We are things to sociopaths; and our only usefulness to them is what they can steal from us or what services we can provide to them.
