  •  You are being naive. All presidents face (6+ / 0-)

assasination threats, but Obama faces 3 times as many as past presidents.  He's not three times as radical or three times as dangerous or three times as anything.  He is, however, black.

If you need more evidence that race has more than a little to do with the anti-Obama fervor, please look at the plentiful documentation of the presence of racism in the Teaparty and other elements of the Republican base.  Note I'm not saying that all Teapartiers or all Republicans are racist.  But elements of racism are certainly there.  I remind you of the "witch doctor" bone-in-nose posters, the little monkey dolls labeled "Obama," etc.  I remind you of the Red State threads in which GOP bloggers called Michelle and the girls ghetto trash, ghetto whores, and other such invective; and that the threads stayed up for days.  i remind you that Hannity and Beck and Fox in general and Rush Limbaugh have been pushing memes since 2008 about Obama fostering racial conflict and/or race war.  That Obama hates white culture and doesn't trust white people and is somehow responsible for the existence and alleged powr of the (scary black) New Black Panther Party.  That Obama wants to take money from white people and  give it to black people as reparations for slavery.  Surely you can notice some undertones of racial fears and animosity in these memes.

Racial fear and animosity is emphatically involved in the extent of opposition to Obama, and the hysterical edge on that opposition.  The fear that Obama is a secret foreigner out to destroy the nation is a racial fear.

      Cites Please!

Maybe you have them, please provide them.

(No Nugent doesn't count - as you know, the SS has cleared him just a tens of hours after his innocuous comments which were overblown stupid comments [as the SS knows]). Likely every POTUS in the last 30 years has had hundreds of such incidents that the SS dismissed after a few hours of investigation.

The worst thing those who hold views that are in the outlying ten or twenty percent is to assume everyone understands and accepts their views. The challenge, as I've learned during the 50+ years of my life, is not stomping your feet harder and screaming louder but, rather, responding with documentation (not puff pieces by partisan organizations - be the Cato Institute or Current TV).

(Yes, I know Wikipedia is not a viable source, but proving a negative is of course often impossible and should never be required. Of course, I can't PROVE the US didn't land on the moon or that 9/11 wasn't all a giant conspiracy by Bush -- however, there's no viable evidence for either so I pay no attention to such tin-foil hat arguments).
