  •  As always, the countries who defend (6+ / 0-)

international law are the ones for whom it is most convenient.  The US government loves international law when it give us cover to do something we want to do, or to stop others from doing.  Same with China and Russia.

There revolution will not be televised. But it will be blogged, a lot. Probably more so than is necessary.

      adhere's to international law.

But saying Russia and China are "defenders" of International Law... AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA that's a good one.

They often do when it involves economic treaties because the likelihood of punishment is fairly high, and some countries are far better all in all than others. There are useful things about international law, and I suspect it has reduced the number of wars.

I wouldn't see China as a gross offender.  They are pretty bad in regards to human rights, but haven't gone out on any imperial military excursions that I know of, other than their on going occupation of Tibet, which is rather disputed under international law.

Russia is a joke in that regard, not just in terms of protecting international law, which china doesn't do either, but also in flagrantly violating it.

And just because they don't generally invade other places doesn't make them general adherents to Int'l Law....

Anyway, it really doesn't matter. I just thought the quote that Russia and China were defenders of International Law was pretty funny. That is like saying Iran is a great defender of Gay Rights... Oh wait they have no Gay people there. I forgot. (/snark)
