    That's a joke that writes itself.

    "We pattern ourselves after the ancient Greeks, now keep those queers away from us!"  

    Crazy.

    Here in Mississippi I've seen a lot of ground gained.  I work in a place where at least a third of the people working there are gay, and it's seldom been an issue;  everybody gets along great.  But, my area's a little more enlightened than some of the more backwoods areas, where stupidity still reigns.  But, that kind of stupidity is dying... most of the younger generation just aren't buying into it, or racism, anymore.   The South is heavily religious, and, sadly and contrary to the way it should be if people actually followed the philosophy in their book, intolerance and bigotry still find their most fertile ground in religion.  But religion's slowly weakening, too, and taking its bad parts with it.
